PACIFICTION REVIEW:

The first Lobo compilation was a groundbreaking moment for the Taiwanese independent music scene. Culled by Taiwan's fresh indie label White Wabbit Records, such divers artists were brought together to record for a compilation CD that would be representative of Taiwan's sound for years to come. Starting things of is the punky female fronted indie pop group ORANGE DOLL which then makes way for indie-electronica wizards KbN and post-rockers EMILY. In the middle of the album, we have a couple guests appearances by JOY TRENDY SOUND from Hong Kong and MINISKIRT from Japan. Then we have contributions by two Taiwanese indie bands that are still making noise to this day, the manic alt-rock group PEPPERMINT and sensitive post-rock trio 8MM SKY. Out of nowhere, FALL OF THIS CORNER explodes with screaming hardcore demonstrating punk exists on the island. NIPPLES give us a de-structured experimental track which leads us to more esoteric music by WEATHERMEN and some electronic experimentation from T-SOUND. Given all this, it's not hard to see how this compilation is an indisputable landmark in contemporary Taiwanese music history.
