The Hong Kong Scene

The current independent music in Hong Hong is a hodge podge mix that consists of diverse styles and forms. On the hardcore front KING LY CHEE have been spearheading a South East Asian movement for the past decade. Girl punk band HARD CANDY have been fusing riot grrl and indie rock similar to their Taiwanese contemporaries LADY BUG. Bands like 22 CATS take on the electronic side of experimental indie while ELF FATIMA produce layered post-rock with airy vocals. Indie pop ensembles MY LITTLE AIRPORT and THE MARSHMALLOW KISSES brighten the scene with fluffy sounds and retro reverie. The city-state also offers a variety in punk rock from the raw UK street style of DEFIANT SCUM to the California skate punk of HARDPACK.The Hong Kong scene is increasingly growing with an influx of new indie bands and live houses like the infamous Underground that feature them weekly.
