Providing Hong Kong's indie scene with layered post-rock experimentation, ELF FATIMA have become one of the city's acclaimed indie bands. Their increasing popularity lead them to play some amazing events in Hong Kong including a major concert at the Coliseum as well as regular shows hosted by the local Music Colony Bi-weekly magazine. In 2004, ELF FATIMA had the chance to open for one of their major influences the eminent MOGWAI. The band also appeared on the Taiwanese Lobo III compilation on White Wabbit Records and even played several shows on the island. Their two albums have been well received, the most recent self-produced effort getting more international attention among instrumental post-rock enthusiasts.

TRACK LIST:
PACIFICTION REVIEW:Finely packaged in a velvety sleeve, the second effort from this Hong Kong post-rock group begins with a mysterious build-up on "Frozen Forest" then breaks into the rolling "螻蟻" featuring the ethereal vocal musings in Cantonese by lead singer Elf who becomes an amalgam of TORI AMOS and FAYE WONG throughout the album. ELF FATIMA's songs contain an atmospheric approach characterized by layered over-drive and a uniquely connected rhythm section of pounding drums and rumbling bass that can either form a slow groove or explode with intensity, like on "昨晚再從高處墮下" which sounds interestingly like HEAD PHONES PRESIDENT minus the metal. ELF FATIMA will appeal to those who appreciate instrumental post-rock and experimental music forms as well as fans of straightforward indie rock. |
