Unafraid to be hyper, raucous and fun, THE WHITE EYES formed in 2004 and began introducing elements of disco punk, garage and electro to a indie rock scene dominated by lethargic post-rock and slow-core. After contributing a song to White Wabbit Records' third Lobo compilation, the band quickly rose to popularity for their outrageous live performances at festivals like Spring Scream and Fomoz. In 2008 THE WHITE EYES released their first mini-album, and shortly after, they placed first at the Ho-Hai-Yan battle of the bands making them one of the most successful bands on Taiwan at the moment.

PACIFICTION REVIEW:The first release from Taipei's outrageous modern rock band is sure to have you shaking to their hyper groove. "No No No" is a dance rock tune with garage riffs that will remind you of NYC's Yeah Yeah Yeahs, while "Narcissistic Personality Disorder" shows off the band's bluesy side as well as lead singer Gao Xiao Gao's soulful female vocals. "All The Things" is a more esoteric post-punk song that subsides into the electro version of "Narcissistic Personality Disorder." Interweaving dance rhythms, garage distortion and subtle electro inflections, THE WHITE EYES have introduced a new sound to Taiwan that is ready to be appreciated abroad as well. |
