Known as a "joke" among a group of very Taiwan sounding punk bands including 88 BALAZ and CHILDREN SUCKER from the early 2000's, PUNK COW TEAM draws on 70's punk rock, surf and Taiwanese oldies. Known for their spats with Taipei fashion punks and rowdy performances, the band became an underground success and recorded a short mini-album before disbanding. Afterward, some of the members formed NIUPIZHI.

PACIFICTION REVIEW:With touches of acoustic rock, surf and Taiwanese humor, PUNK COW TEAM represent the local side of Taiwanese punk. The first song, which has the tongue-in-cheek English translation: "Touch Your Boobs So Soft, So Soft" makes use of layered lo-fi vocals and is charged with distorted power chords and rock riffs. Next, we have "Love Under the Sun," an uppity, oldies tune with pleading vocals and acoustic textures. "參.綁起來" has a beach rock theme with a touch of surf guitar to make a light-hearted sound. The final song is an "unplugged" backyard jam version of "Love Under the Sun" with a soothing flute solo and birds chirping in the background. Despite being known as a "joke" band, PUNK COW TEAM has created a very worthwhile mini-album. |
