About the Band

GOLDEN

Over the past several years GOLDEN has been bringing their erratic city slicker swagger to Tokyo's live house circuit. With jagged post-punk guitars melded to dark country mandolin playing, the trio has drawn comparisons to NICK CAVE and GALLON DRUNK. In 2009, they were picked up by the fledgling Tsurumi Records and subsequently went on an east coast US tour which brought them to Boston and New York City.

PACIFICTION REVIEW:

The bright sounds of alt-country that clash with darker post-punk effects on GOLDEN's first self-titled album assert the bands identity in the global neo-folk scene. The haunting Japanese lyrics, edgy guitar slashes and flecks of mandolin on "Horse With No Rider" set the mood for what's to come. However, the gothic atmosphere is not oppressive, as evidenced on the upbeat and hopeful "Go, Gal." Elements of experimental rock creep in on tracks like the instrumental "Gray Sky, Morning Sea" although they remain darkly western in ambiance. Fans of NICK CAVE, and groups related to his entourage like DIRTY THREE and GALLON DRUNK, should take a walk on the wild countryside with GOLDEN.
